07. BLUE IVY

¡Hola chicos!

Hi guys!
How’s your week going?

I’ve just arrived in the city of Caen, in the north of France, but I managed to find time to bring you my latest post, just like every Wednesday.

This time, I have chosen a denim top with frayed sleeves and patterned trousers from Zara. As I mentioned in one of my first posts, denim is one of my favourite fabrics, and I love combining it with slightly more daring garments.

My sunglasses are by VOGUE and have bottle green lenses, rescued from stash of clothing my dear father wore in his youth. I remember that when I was little I really didn’t like the gold frames, and now they have become my favourite sunglasses.

I’ll leave you with a few photos of that afternoon in the port of Cadiz!

THAILAND. SEQUEL

Hi guys!

Today I have posted on the second part of my Thailand trip. As I told you all in my last post, we began the adventure in Bangkok, and after discovering come of the city’s hidden treasures we flew north to a small city in the middle of the jungle that we swiftly fell in love with: Chiang Mai.

We used the day of our arrival to explore the streets in the heart of the city and survey the area. We were early to bed though to make the most of the next day.

Our second day in Chiang Mai was spent in the Patara Elephant Farm. The farm cares for elephants that have been rescued from extreme situations, with the aim of returning them to their natural habitat. This was definitely one of the most touching experiences of our trip!

On the third day we visited the temples inside the city walls.  The temples are an impressive sight to see, and we would recommend in particular visiting the Wat Chedi Luang and Wat Chian Mai temples. They really are worth seeing and you can visit both in just over an hour!

On the last day we rented some scooters to go up Doi Suthep and visit the outskirts of Chiang Mai.  We made our first stop at the Wat Pha Lat temple, also known as the Rock Temple, where we took in one of the best views of the city. The temples really do have a special atmosphere.  We then carried on up the mountain, past thermal waterfalls, until we reached Wat Phrat Doi Suthep, with its 350 steps that we ended up climbing a lot quicker than expected.

Once we visited what is a Buddhist relic, where we saw the White Elephant (symbol of good fortune), we took the scooters all the way to the mountain peak, where the viewpoint does not disappoint!

From this incredible city we flew to Hat Yai (southern Thailand), were we took the boat to the isle of Koh Lipe, located to the south-east of the country, near the Malaysian border.  This is where we took the opportunity to rest, enjoy the sea and the last few days of our holiday. We went snorkelling and scuba diving, and enjoyed freshly caught local deep-sea fish, not to mention wonderful watermelon shakes.

Below are some photos from the second part of the trip - I would certainly recommend it for your next holiday!

THAILAND. THE BEGINNING

¡Buenas chicos!

Hi again, guys!

How are your holidays? I hope you’re having as much fun as I am!

Today I want to tell you about the first part of my trip to Thailand. I’m lucky to be traveling with two great friends and we’re having a blast.

Our adventure began when we landed in Bangkok on 27 July, after a long flight. My first impression was one of heat and chaos. The city is home to more than 8 million people and a multitude of wonders that we had yet to discover.

By mid-morning we’d boarded a boat to take us down the Charo Praya River to the temples and the Grand Palace, where we were amazed by their size and sheer devotion to the Buddhist religion. The spaces are meticulously detailed, though crammed with tourists. The tour continued to Wat Phra Kaew, also known as the Temple of the Emerald Buddha, which was my favourite.

After a much needed and deserved break for lunch, we headed to the Wat Po temple, located just behind the Grand Place, where the famous 43 meter long reclining Buddha is on display.

The next day, we travelled to Ayutthaya, a city 70km. from the centre of Bangkok that can easily be reached by train from Hua Lamphong station. For more than 400 years, Ayutthaya was the centre of Thailand; today, it houses a temple complex in a Historic Park, teeming with the country’s most famous ruins. There are several ways to see the area, but I recommend negotiating with the driver of a tuk-tuk (an auto rickshaw, similar to a taxi) and settling on a fixed price before departing for the temples. We paid 1,000 baht (approx. €25) for three people.

A tour of the park can be done in about 4 hours and entrance to the temples varies between 20 and 50 baht (approx. €1). The Wat Maha That is breath-taking, as is the head of the Buddha carved into the roots that form the trunk of an enormous tree. Not to be outdone are the ruins of the Wat Chaiwatthanaram and another stunning reclining Buddha that is more than 42 meters long and 8 meters high at Wat Lokaya Sutha.

The third and final day in Bangkok we spent visiting the Amphawa floating market in the morning and early afternoon (it’s important to go on a Saturday or Sunday due to the influx at the market). Take the opportunity to buy fresh fruit at a great price. The shakes are to die for! And the rest of the day, we relaxed at the hotel preparing to head to Chiang Mai, a city in northern Thailand, the next day.

Here are some photos from the first part of the trip! :)
